Jesús Romero-Barranco joined the Department of English at the University of Málaga in 2014, after having been appointed as predoctoral researcher in a research project funded by the Autonomous Government of Andalusia (Desarrollo del corpus electrónico de referencia de inglés científico-técnico: el período moderno temprano, 1500-1700, supervised by Dr Javier Calle-Martín). Within the framework of this project, Dr. Romero completed his doctoral dissertation, which involved the semi-diplomatic edition, corpus compilation and study of linguistic complexity of two texts in MS Hunter 135 (ff. 34r–119v), a hitherto unedited scientific manuscript housed in Glasgow University Library (Sobresaliente Cum Laude, Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado).
Dr Romero has held Assistant Professor positions at the universities of Valencia (2018-2020) and Granada (2020-2023). Currently, he is a member of the Department of English at the University of Málaga, where he obtained a permanent position in 2024.
Among his research interests, Jesús is interested in the History of English (diachronic development of syntactic structures in competition as well as language standardisation), manuscript studies (edition and corpus compilation of unedited scientific manuscripts in the period 1350-1700) and World Englishes (language variation and change in English worldwide).
